JazzYYC offers several scholarships to support the development of jazz musicians at various stages of their careers. Below is a quick summary of the opportunities available this season.


These two scholarships share the same criteria and aim to support young people continuing their jazz studies at the post-secondary level.
- Value (Each): $1,000
- Eligibility: Young people (ages 18-25) continuing music studies in a Canadian post-secondary music program with opportunities for jazz studies.
- Submission Requirement: Short audio recording and submission forms.
- Deadline: To be announced

Sponsored by Lorna MacLachlan, this award supports female, female-identifying, and non-binary students.
- Value: $1,000
- Eligibility: Students (ages 16-25) continuing jazz studies (private lessons or recognized Canadian post-secondary program).
- Submission Requirement: Short audio recording and submission forms.
- Deadline: February – To be announced
- Winner Announced: March 8th (International Women’s Day)
Sponsored by the Hornby Family, this award celebrates Mark Hornby’s legacy by supporting an emerging local artist.
- Value: $1,000
- Eligibility: Young artist (21 younger as of Sept. 1) enrolled in a jazz program at **Ambrose University or the University of Calgary**.
- Submission Requirement: Short audio recording and submission forms.
- Deadline: March – To be announced
- Winner Announced: April 30th
Offered in partnership with the Calgary Musicians Association, this targets professional, active musicians.
- Value: $1,000
- Eligibility: **Professional Performing Jazz Musicians** seeking funds for further studies (tuition, lessons, workshops).
- Submission Requirement: Written proposal (artistic vision, detailed budget, timeline) and audio/link of recent work.
- Deadline: May – To be announced
- Winner Announced: On or before June 15th

This award supports members of the JazzYYC Youth Lab Band continuing their musical education.
- Value: $1,000
- Eligibility: Members of the **JazzYYC Youth Lab Band** pursuing music at the post-secondary level.
- Use of Funds: Any related costs for preparation or direct costs of a post-secondary music program.
- Application Process: Internal; contact the Youth Lab Band Directors for details.
