ALLTIMATE JAZZ QUARTET — SWING NIGHT
About this event
We’re trying something a little different at GULBAR.
If you’ve never been to a swing night, think live jazz — but the kind you’re not really supposed to sit still through.
Swing grew out of the jazz clubs and dance halls of the 1930s and ’40s, and the culture around it is still very much alive today — including right here in Calgary, where there’s a dedicated community built around social dancing, Lindy Hop, Balboa and live jazz.
On October 23, Madhu Band brings that energy into GULBAR: upbeat rhythms, swinging jazz and a dance floor that’s actually meant to be used.
🎟 Presale — $10 online through October 22
🎟 General Admission — $23 on October 16 & at the door
You do not need to know how to swing dance to come. Grab a drink, listen to the band, watch the dancers, try a few steps if the mood hits — or just enjoy a Friday night that feels a little more like an old-school jazz club than your usual night out.
Live band. Cocktails. Dancing. A little vintage energy in the middle of downtown Calgary.

Jazz Room at GULBAR is a home for live jazz in Calgary — built around great music, local talent, and a genuine sense of community.
We host live jazz every Friday, along with selected shows on other dates throughout the month. Our goal is simple: to make high-quality live jazz accessible, welcoming, and exciting for both longtime jazz lovers and people who are just discovering the scene.
Our stage features a mix of established Calgary musicians, emerging local artists, special collaborations, and new programs created specifically for Jazz Room. Many of our shows are free or budget-friendly, making it easy to experience incredible live music without turning jazz into an exclusive night out.
Jazz Room is more than just a series of concerts. It’s a space where musicians can perform for an engaged audience, experiment with new ideas, build connections, and be heard in a room designed for live music — with a proper stage, professional sound, lighting, and an atmosphere that lets the music take centre stage.
By coming to a Jazz Room show, you’re not only enjoying a great evening — you’re also supporting local musicians, Calgary’s jazz community, and an independent project dedicated to growing the live jazz scene.
Come for the music, discover new artists, meet people who love jazz, and be part of what we’re building.
Live jazz every Friday + selected dates.
Some shows are free, others ticketed.
