Jazz Nebula’s Quintet performs the music of Oscar-nominated and Grammy-winning saxophonist and composer Dexter Gordon.

ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS JAZZ MASTER saxophonist Dexter Gordon is widely known in jazz as being the musician to translate alto saxophonist Charlie Parker’s and trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie’s BEBOP music innovations to the tenor saxophone. In 1986, he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role as the fictional character (saxophonist) Dale Turner in Bernard Tavernier’s film ‘Round Midnight. He is the only jazz musician ever to be nominated for that award. The musical score for the film won the Oscar for pianist Herbie Hancock. Dexter Gordon performed in Calgary in 1974.

Jazz Nebula is a non-profit society based in Calgary, Alberta with a mission to present concerts of Great American Songbook and Jazz Composers.
