Mitchell Prentice

Mitchell Prentice is a Canadian Tenor Saxophonist born and raised in Calgary. Growing up, Mitchell enjoyed listening to classic rock from Led Zeppelin, Cream, Pink Floyd, and Rush before discovering jazz.

Mitchell graduated from MacEwan University with a Bachelor’s degree in music performance under the tutelage of Jerrold Dubyk. Mitchell’s musical influences include his idol Sonny Rollins, as well as Joshua Redman, John Coltrane, and Mike Murley.

In March 2024, Mitchell made his debut performance as part of the Yardbird Suite’s Emerging Artist series. In 2026, Mitchell curated a tribute series to the late Sonny Rollins, performing his albums and compositions live at 5 different venues across Calgary and released a live recorded EP ‘Saxophone Colossus live at Congress Coffee’.

Mitchell currently has a weekly musical residency at True Wild Distilling, performing as a trio every Tuesday evening and teaches privately at Cornerstone Music. While continuing to work freelance as one of Calgary’s most in-demand sidemen and bandleaders.

Mitchell now resides in Calgary and continues to pursue musical opportunities in his hometown, aiming to enrich the city’s music scene while advancing his high level of excellence, knowledge, and experience on the Tenor Saxophone.
